life as a dog…

Haven’t written in a little over a week. The move is official. I have started moving stuff to Fairlington. I can’t get out of this hell hole soon enough. The new place is going to be kind of empty to start with, especially after the nightmare of the last two weeks that my truck has caused. Twice in the shop…new oxygen sensors, new distributor…and new ECU. Blech. That really screwed things up for me for the time being.

It’s almost official. I am moving out of Reston. I have given my landlord notice. Instead of driving 24 miles to work and then 24 miles back home, I will drive 2 miles to work and then 2 miles back. Not the dream commute I had originally planned on…but still much better.

It’s been about 8 years since I lived inside the beltway. It will be nice to be back so close to the district. Most importantly, though…instead of driving 20 miles to get to L’s place…I only have to go about 2 miles.

I think the biggest thing I’m looking forward to is one that I hadn’t really thought about before…and it’s kind of scary to think about. I’ve never had my own place. I’ve always had roommates – be it family growing up, a college roommate, or someone else. This will be the first time I do not have to worry about what anyone else thinks. If something is a mess, it’s MY fault. If it’s clean, it was MY cleaning. That’s an incredibly great feeling. Even if it’s pathetic that it took this long.

Oh…and where am I moving? Fairlington. It will be official on Saturday, when I sign my lease.

OK, so I’m NOT going to be moving to be 3 blocks from work. Because of stupidity of realtor (not paying attention to emails) and stupidity of landlord (saying pets are ok and then backing off that), I did not get the place in Delray. At this point, I *might* be getting a place in Fairlington. We’ll see. IF I do, instead of 3 blocks, it’ll be about 3 miles. Still infinitely better than what I’m doing now…but I was really looking forward to being able to walk to work.
