life as a dog…

traveling and rambling

photos, travel and what not…

Finally travelling is done for a little bit (well, maybe a couple weeks). Immediately after Las Vegas, I had to go to Atlanta. That job was kinda boring, but at least we got to stay in a decent hotel.

My pictures…they are coming along. I am done re-capturing all the digital and negatives. Now I’m on the slides. There are a couple groups that I think I have lost forever. I can’t get Anyreader to copy them, and the Mac doesn’t see the disc at all. One is from Vegas, one from Skyline Drive, and the last from Gatlinburg (or more specifically, Great Smokey Mountains National Park and Cades Cove). The Gatlinburg group disappoints me…I had some decent pictures in there. Considering what was going on at that time, I suppose it’s fitting that I lose them. Just a hair under 200 pictures. Some are still on the photo pages. I guess I should save those.

paris, las vegas nevada…

I’m just testing the blogging ability of flickr. I may or may not start using flickr to post photos to the blog. (As you can see, there is a slight problem with the size of the photo).

another nab done…

I’m back from Vegas and the NAB show. Thank God it’s done for another year. I used to love going to the show, being able to see all the newest video toys. But it’s become a chore. I think to really enjoy the show, you have to skip a year or two before you go again.

My free time, I got to get out and take a lot of pictures. Made it to Hoover Dam, but it was too crowded, so we didn’t stop. Hiked to one of the historic train tunnels the builders used (the tracks are gone, but the path remains). The one place I made it to but didn’t get pictures (wasn’t allowed in)… the Neon Museum. They have two fenced in areas as their “graveyard.” Look through their website and you’ll see why it would be so cool to take pictures. I believe their most recent acquisition is the Stardust sign (I did see it there, and it was imploded only a month or two ago).

Last but not least, my food “experience” added a new dish. I can’t say I’ll ever get it again, as I wasn’t fond of it. It was….

Duck.

Blech.

shocking…

This past weekend, L and I made a trip to Ikea. I don’t know what it is, but Ikea’s cafe has a great breakfast. You wouldn’t think a store that specializes in inexpensive furniture would have that great of food…but they do. And we have both determined that the ONLY time to head to Ikea is around 9:00 am. There is nobody there. It’s perfect.

So we got that taken care of and headed back to her place. For dinner, she wanted Thai. We went once before, and the food I tried…just didn’t do it for me. Her favorite…not mine. Each has their own palate, of course. We got to the restaurant and got a seat. I wasn’t planning on getting anything, since I wasn’t really hungry. But while we were sitting there, I figured I’d give it one more try. This time I ordered something else. And guess what…it was good.

Here’s the shocking part(s)… 1. It was Thai. 2. It was seafood. 3. When I was finishing up, I noticed something at the bottom of the plate….mushrooms! (I didn’t eat them, as they still weird me out.) So…I ate something that was thai, seafood, and had mushrooms in it. How’s THAT for shocking?

update on last post…

I lucked out with AnyReader. Out of around 2000 pictures, I only lost about 10. I’d rather have not lost any…but 1/2 percent is better than 25 percent.
