bang…the future of rock and roll…

Rest in Peace, 97X

Well, ok, the station isn’t entirely going away. But it’s going to be gone from the radio frequencies. I just don’t see how they are going to survive doing internet-only. The royalties are going to kill them unless they have some killer advertising (and I don’t see that happening on the internet anytime soon).

Why will royalties kill them, you ask? Because the Library of Congress, who is in charge of that sort of thing, buckled to the RIAA and set higher fees for streaming – per user basis, not a flat market-based fee like radio. So now streaming stations get raped by the RIAA. The more listeners, the more they get raped.

pixar…

Looks like Pixar finally is getting out from under Disney. They are going to look for another studio to do business with. Can’t imagine why… Disney wants too much from them. That is, Pixar is strong enough in content to go where they please, and they aren’t going to give Disney what they currently have – shared revenue AND Disney has the right to make sequels to Pixar movies (i.e. Toy Story and Finding Nemo). Honestly, I’m surprised Pixar doesn’t just go it alone.

new yawk citah…

Hey hey! More pictures have been uploaded.

Get to go to New York next Monday. Won’t have much time to do anything, I’m guessing. It’s *possible* I may have Monday evening free…it all depends on when we can get in to set up the equipment. We’ll be heading back down on Tuesday.

new from glen echo…

Surprise, surprise! I finally added a set of pictures to my site. These ones are from Glen Echo Park in Maryland. Glen Echo used to be an amusement park, but has been closed as one for quite a long time. They are now remaking it into an artist colony of sorts. There is still one ride left, and old carousel.
