work…

Well, yet another late night. This time I got home at 12:30am. One project I just want to get done and out the door. Boring subject matter, boring speakers. Nine of ‘em. Seven done, two to go…unfortunately the worst ones are what’s left. Ugh. Next Friday can’t come soon enough (Las Vegas trip).

genealogy link…

Hey, I found a new genealogy link I had never seen. Don’t know if it will be useful or not, but here it is:

the oscars…

I’m SO tired of the news. Overdone is a nice term for it.

So what of the Oscars? Michael Moore I think went a little across the line. I have no problem with him and his views, but he didn’t express them very well. Adrien Brody had perhaps the most eloquent remarks as per the war. I was shocked that Richard Gere said nothing. And the most shocking award goes to the Best Song category. Eminem?! I’m not taking anything away from him, but he’s up against U2 (who would have seemed a shoe-in to me) AND he’s rap – not exactly a movie industry darling. I was hoping Christopher Walken would have won his category. Ah well.

And yes…Joan Rivers is STILL annoying as hell. E! needs to dump that now. WHO in that network keeps her on board???

politics rant, part 2…

I have to say, I’m very disappointed in the anti-war protesters. I don’t think half of them have a clue on the whole situation. I know I don’t. But what gets me, they are protesting war/violence, and yet are doing the same. Molotov cocktails in San Francisco? Do they not have a clue of the spirit of peaceful protesting? High school students leaving class to protest? I call bullshit. You *know* a majority are leaving because it’s an excuse to leave school.

I would say a good portion need to learn the ways of Martin Luther King, Jr. or Ghandi. I guarantee most won’t know how or why those two protested in situations. Ask them why King was in Memphis when he was killed. Bet they don’t know. (Hint – to support striking city workers).

Now, I’ve seen stupidity on the other side, too. One news piece had a soundbite from some girl. “It’s our moral obligation to go to war.” That is ALL she said. Uh…ok. It wasn’t edited to make her sound stupid. She just did.

politics rant…

So it has begun. I still don’t know where I sit in this whole mess. I’d rather we didn’t go in, but since we will (and now are), I hope it’s quick and to the point. Is the threat of more terrorist attacks worth it? I have no doubt we are in more danger now. I still am not really concerned about it, but the possibilities have certainly increased.

What blows my mind are all these so called “patriotic Americans” who seem to think that if you disagree, you ought to move out. Right. Whatever. That’s why I’ve got that quote on the front page right now. These same “patriotic Americans” apparently aren’t familiar with the Bill of Rights…or more specifically, the First Amendment. Want an example of this crap? Go check out Charlie Daniels’ website. Yes, he of “Devil Went Down to Georgia” fame.

These same “patriotic Americans” also think that if you disagree with the war, that not only must you be anti-American, but you must be “anti-troops” as well. Right. Whatever. These troops are doing their job. Anyone who willingly puts their life on the line, regardless of who is leading them, gets every bit of my respect. I could never do that. I wouldn’t have the nerve to do it.

So to all you “patriotic Americans” and yes, you, Charlie Daniels, go back and read the Bill of Rights again. Familiarize yourself with it. A lot of you sure like to swing that 2nd Amendment around…try the First one. There’s a reason is was put first.

I leave with another quote, one by who I would consider to be the greatest President we have ever had, Thomas Jefferson.

“…God forbid we should ever be twenty years without such a rebellion. The people cannot be all, and always, well informed. The part which is wrong will be discontented, in proportion to the importance of the facts they misconceive. If they remain quiet under such misconceptions, it is lethargy, the forerunner of death to the public liberty. …And what country can preserve its liberties, if it’s rulers are not warned from time to time, that this people preserve the spirit of resistance?”
